لامپ فِلورسِنت یا لامپ مهتابی، نوعی لامپ بخار جیوه تخلیه در گاز کم‌فشار با استفاده از ویژگی فلورسانس است.
شیوه تولید نور در این لامپ، این‌گونه است که ولتاژ اعمال‌شده به دو سر لامپ، باعث داغ‌شدن گاز درون آن می‌شود. در نتیجه، جیوه بخار می‌شود. از سوی دیگر، گذر جریان برق از دو رشته درون لامپ، باعث گرم‌شدن آن‌ها می‌شود. این رشته‌ها، با ماده‌ای پوشانده‌ شده‌اند که در اثر گرم‌شدن الکترون آزاد می‌کند. این الکترون‌ها به اتم‌های بخار جیوه برخورد کرده، الکترون‌های آن را تحریک می‌کنند. این تحریک، گذراست، به‌گونه‌ای‌که الکترون‌های بخار جیوه، به حالت پیش از تحریک خود بازگشته، و اتم‌های بخار جیوه، پرتو فرابنفش آزاد می‌کنند. با برخورد پرتو فرابنفش به لایه فسفر که سطح درون لامپ را پوشانده، فسفر می‌درخشد و نور تقریباً سفید تولید می‌کند.
در واقع، تحریک بخار جیوه منجر به یک فرایند زنجیره ایِ تولیدِ یون می‌شود. حاصل آن پلاسمایی است که از خود پرتو فرابنفش می‌پراکند. سپس ماده فلورسنت، این پرتو را به نور تبدیل می‌کند.

شرکت افروغ در سال 1372 افتتاح شد.سپس فعالیت خود را با تولید سالیانه 15 میلیون لامپ آغاز نمود. در سال 1374 به اخذ گواهینامه استاندارد برای تمامی لامپ های رشته ای توفیق یافت . در سال 1378 موفق به اخذ گواهینامه ISO9002 از شرکت SGS سوئیس گردید. در سال 1381 افروغ توانست ماشین آلات تولید سیم های نگهدارنده فیلامان را مورد بهره برداری قرار دهد. در سال 1382 لامپ کم مصرف FPL برای اولین بار در كشور توسط شركت افروغ تولید شد . در همان سال شرکت افروغ به عنوان اولین آزمایشگاه آکرودیته لامپ در ایران مورد تایید قرار گرفت .
